WELCOME TO
A charitable foundation on a mission to help
young Kiwis conquer their mental health challenges.
Welcome to Alegria Foundation, where we’re dedicated to supporting the mental health and well-being of young New Zealanders through the joy of outdoor activities. Here’s how our program works for applicants:
Eligibility: Applicants suffering from mental health challenges, aged between 13 and 24 years old (with exceptions possible), are invited to apply to learn a new sport or activity.
Sport Selection: Applicants have the opportunity to choose the sport or activity they’re interested in learning. Once selected, we provide them with detailed information and requirements for that specific sport.
Commitment to Learning: We encourage applicants to commit to a minimum course suggested by our instructors to ensure they can fully learn and enjoy the sport. This may involve committing to a minimum number of lessons as suggested by the instructors.
Application Process: Once an applicant applies, we’ll promptly contact them to finalize the details of their participation in the program.
Cost Coverage: Alegria Foundation covers the cost of the course and lessons with qualified instructors for approved applicants.
Activity Schedule: The start of each activity will depend on the schedule of each sport and the availability of instructors. We’ll work closely with applicants to find suitable timing for their chosen activity.
Through our program, we aim to provide participants with not only the opportunity to learn a new sport but also the chance to experience the positive benefits of outdoor recreation on their mental health and well-being.
Join us in embracing the joy of outdoor activities and fostering brighter futures for our youth. Apply today and let’s embark on this journey together!

Addressing mental health challenges is an incredibly complex task that requires a multi-faceted approach.
At Alegria, our mission is always to complement a wider treatment programme administered by qualified mental health professionals.
We believe the transformative power of the outdoors and the challenge of mastering a new sport can offer the following holistic benefits:

The Alegria Foundation sponsors individuals across the entire country, as we connect with the activity or sports provider of the applicant’s choosing. We organize and sponsor the lessons directly with the provider to ensure a seamless and supportive experience.
Windsurfing and Foiling: Experience the thrill of gliding over the water with windsurfing and foiling sessions with Madloop Windsurfying.
Golf: Perfect your swing and improve your game with professional golf lessons.
Tennis: Take to the court and enjoy tennis lessons.
Sailing: Set sail and learn the ropes of sailing at the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron.
